报告摘要(ABSTRACT):
Since computer vision was founded in 1960s, researchers have been dreaming of enabling a machine to describe what it sees.  Recent development of deep learning has significantly boosted computer vision research. It is said that now computer vision can empower a 5-year-old human visual system.  In this talk, we will introduce recent vision techniques for visual recognition, and how we can apply these innovative techniques to transform the retailing experiences.
报告人简介(BIOGRAPHY):
Tao Mei is a Technical Vice President with JD.com and the Deputy Managing Director of JD AI Research, where he also serves as the Director of Computer Vision and Multimedia Lab. Prior to joining JD.com in 2018, he was a Senior Research Manager with Microsoft Research Asia in Beijing, China, where he contributed 20 inventions and technologies to Microsoft’s products and services. He has authored or co-authored over 200 publications (with 11 best paper awards) and holds 20 US granted patents. He is or has been an Editorial Board Member of IEEE TIP, IEEE TCSVT, IEEE TMM, ACM TOMM, and ACM TIST. He is the General Co-chair of IEEE ICME 2019, the Program Co-chair of ACM Multimedia 2018, IEEE ICME 2015 and IEEE MMSP 2015.  Tao was elected as a Fellow of IAPR, a Distinguished Scientist of ACM in 2016, and a Distinguished Industry Speaker of IEEE Signal Processing Society in 2017. He is an Adjunct Professor with the University of Science and Technology of China, the Chinese University of Hong Kong – Shenzhen, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University, and Yongsei University, Korea.
